About 15 adult leadership classes spent the first week of the program in a low-intensity course learning about outdoor exercise barriers.
Leadership Tri-County The Tribune County Chamber of Commerce is a 10-month program that prepares community members for leadership roles in the region. The 2022 leadership class officially began in September, with the program’s first field trip to the Althouse Arboretum Rope Course in Upper Ptsigrov.
“Rope course is a long-standing tradition in the leadership department,” said Jenna Armato, growth and success coach at this year’s leadership department.
According to Armato, the leadership program is very important for students to complete the first week of fitness course. She says it helps her classmates to cooperate and trust each other in their leadership journey.
Armato said: “You were really repeating each other, you were really repeating each other and you were encouraging each other. “It really facilitates communication and collaboration.”
She says that such relationships and group work do not occur naturally or quickly in a traditional classroom.
The Althouse Arboretum course includes obstacles such as a two-foot-long rope, swinging tire test, and a long climbing wall.
In addition to encouraging leadership, the course at Alhouse House Arbor also helps to develop communication skills and high self-esteem. As arboretum website, The course can be adjusted for each team goals.
The leadership class began the day by learning about the history of the Arboretum, which recently celebrated its 6th anniversary.
“It was empty. There was nothing here,” said Ken Hamilton, general manager of Green Alice.
GreenAllies Althouse Arboretum is a non-profit organization that manages. The 17-hectare site now includes trails, outdoor forest classrooms, native plants and more. According to Hamilton, student volunteers assisted with the design and regular programming of Arboretum.
“Everything you see here is created by students,” he said. “They come in and design, plan and implement every program we have here.”
After a lesson in history, the leadership made a warm snowflake and then split into small groups for the Savior. Everyone used the map provided to explore the streets of Arboretum to find flags.
After the fox hunt, the leadership team completed the remaining tests as a team. Their first hurdle was to use a thin board to cross the imaginary peanut butter swamp. The whole group had to cross the road without touching the ground, creating a road with boards.
According to Armato, the obstacle course is related to leadership skills because some challenges require people to think faster, while others require more strategic thinking. She said that various obstacles helped to show the importance of using the individual strengths for the whole team.
Armatato’s classmate is Jessica Zeigler-Sihlar, an architect, and she is able to use her unique skills to help the rest of the team get past the imaginary swamp.
“Her mind goes fast enough to figure out how to put some pieces together so she can walk down the street,” Armato said.
Zeiger-Sihlar said she did not intend to use her architectural skills, but when one of her classmates picked up a board, her mind immediately began to grasp the riddle.
“In my mind I began to imagine how these boards would move along the way,” she said. “I felt I could contribute positively.”
Zeiger-Sihlar said that although the leadership team worked very well together. She felt that this was especially true during the climbing wall because the height was terrifying.
“I was so proud of her,” she says.
During the test, the team had to help their classmates come out one by one. Since there was nothing to climb on the wall, they all worked together to push each other against the wall. Some of the leadership programs were encouraging and were able to guide the rest of the team on how to lift people up.
Zegler-Sihlar said she was happy to be one of the first to lift the wall to help bring in other people after her. She said it was a special time to see people like her classmate Tiffany Smith do the stumbling block.
She (Tiffany) was eager to climb that wall. Her curiosity was like an explosion, ”said Ziegler-Sihlar.
According to Armato, everyone in the leadership class is comfortable enough to jump into obstacles and use creative solutions.
“No one seemed to hesitate or turn back,” she says.
Hamilton told the team that they completed the tire test in one of the fastest times on the course. Half of the leadership had to come in one big swinging wheel, and the other half held them in the other.
Armato says that this special test shows the importance of trusting each other as a team.
“You have to trust the people who throw you in the tire,” she said. “It’s about trusting yourself and trusting the people around you.”
Zeiger-Sihlar thinks that everyone in the group tried something they had never done before during the course.
Although we had met before, everyone got up and worked together.
